DARLINGTON — On Wednesday, Jan. 11, Lafayette County American Legion held its American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Contest.
There were two students that participated in the contest: Grant Kuberski from Argyle and Josie Meister from Darlington. Both students did outstanding jobs on their 8- to 10-minute prepared speech, and did equally well on the assigned topic that was picked, which was the 14th Amendment.
The judging was close for both speeches, but Josie Meister came out the winner and will represent Lafayette County at the 3rd District Oratorical. Josie received a certificate for winning first place, along with a $300 scholarship check.
Grant received a certificate along with a $200 scholarship check, and he will be the alternate.
The 3rd District Oratorical will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Darlington American Legion Post. The 3rd District Oratorical Scholarship Contest is open to the public and the American Legion encourages students and teachers from other schools that are interested in the Oratorical Contest to attend.
