DARLINGTON — The Lafayette Ag Stewardship Alliance will hold its annual meeting Feb. 28 at Bridges Conference Center, 201 Christensen Dr., Darlington. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

The event will showcase speakers on a variety of topics in modern sustainable agriculture. Experts from across the state and region will share information that can be applied to farms locally and beyond.

More than 100 farmers, agribusiness professionals and community members are expected to attend this free educational event. The conference will include a panel presentation about farmer’s experiences with cover crops, reduced tillage and soil health with farmers from Lafayette County and across the state.

Don Niles, DVM, owner of Dairy Dreams, a dairy farm in Kewaunee County, will give a presentation about environmental and social implications of agriculture. His presentation will also include insight on the role farmer-led groups have on the environment and in our communities. Don is the president of Peninsula Pride Farms, a farmer-led watershed group in the Door-Kewaunee Peninsula that is committed to protecting, nurturing and sustaining the environment.

A presentation by John Cassens, agronomist at Ag Tech Air, and Damon Reabe, president of Dairyland Aviation, will broadly discuss aerial seeding of cover crops. Cassens and Reabe will specifically discuss best practices, considerations that contribute to success and the economics of aerial seeding versus other cover crop seeding methods.

The research team for the Southwest Wisconsin Groundwater and Geology study — or SWIGG — will present its preliminary research and discuss plans for the future of this important study in Lafayette, Grant and Iowa counties.

In addition to the panel discussion and presentations, the event will include lunch and several program updates from LASA leadership and affiliated partners.

Sponsorships are available for qualifying agribusiness, conservation and community partners. Go to lafayetteagstewardship.org for the complete schedule and program times. Online RSVP is requested by Feb. 21.

Farmers from Lafayette County are encouraged to attend this free event. Farmers from neighboring counties are also welcome.
