MONROE — Klondike Cheese Company, a fourth-generation family business with cheesemaking roots dating back to 1925, will be the crown sponsor of the Monroe Balloon and Blues Festival planned for June 15 and 16 at the Green County Fairgrounds.
The history of Klondike Cheese Company mirrors that of the Buholzer Family. Swiss immigrants Ernest and Marie Buholzer started with making wheels of Swiss cheese in 1925. Today the factory is well-known for the flavors of Greece with a line of Greek yogurt and several flavors of feta, all under their Odyssey label.
Klondike’s support of the balloon rally also ties in with a new brand being introduced for their line of “deli loaves.” Muenster, brick and havarti cheeses are produced under the “Buholzer Brothers” label — a nod to the trio of Wisconsin master cheesemakers Ron, Dave and Steve Buholzer, who are the grandsons of Ernest and Marie Buholzer.
