Kindergarteners' quilts among displays at show

BELLEVILLE - Visitors to the "For the Love of Quilts" quilt show July 17-18 at Belleville High School, 635 Church St., will see more than 200 examples of quilter's art. Presented by the Belleville Chamber of Commerce and Patches and Petals quilt shop. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Special exhibits will include "Kindergarten Quilts" by Belleville kindergarten classes; "Weaver Log Cabin Quilts" and "Barn Quilts." The raffle quilt, "Willowberry Gardens" is full size. Tickets are $1 for seven chances for $5.

Quilts will be judged in six categories divided by techniques. Awards include first, second and third in each category, Viewer's Choice and Best of Show. The show is open to everyone. In addition, the show offers a vendor mall, silent auction, demonstrations and lectures. Each day four different lectures will be held. Lectures are $10 for the entire day.

Quilt appraisals by Sandy Schweitzer, AQS certified appraiser, will be by appointment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, July 18. Fee per appraisal is $45.

Admission to the show is $5 per day (Lecture fee is an additional $10/day). Children under 5 are free. Advanced tickets for the show and lectures are available online or at Patches and Petals. Food and refreshments will be available. Parking is free. Buses are welcome. Funds from the quilt show will be used for scholarships.
