Junior firefighter raffles quilt to help fund new equipment

SOUTH WAYNE — Last year Mackenzie Bechtolt raised over $2,100 for the South Wayne Fire Department in hopes for them to get an extracting washing machine. This year she is at it again.

The 14-year-old loves being a part of the fire department. She has named herself a “Junior Firefighter” of the South Wayne Fire Department. To become an official Junior Firefighter, one has to be 15-years-old.

Mackenzie is again raffling off a quilt she made with all the proceeds going to the fire department for new equipment. The winning ticket will be chosen on Sunday, March 17 at 4 p.m. 

This year Mackenzie went around and acquired donations from businesses. The top 19 tickets chosen will win a prize, with first prize being the 76”x76” quilt created by Mackenzie, with help from her mother, Marne, who run’s Marne’s Custom Quilting, in the Black Hawk School District’s signature colors, red and black. Other prices include Culver’s “Pint-a-month” for a year, $50 Gift Certificate for Riechers Meat Processing, $30 Dunkin’ Donuts gift basket, $30 Pick N’ Save gift card, $20 Kwik Trip Gift Card, one large pizza from Pizza Hut and more.

If anyone would like to purchase a ticket before the drawing, they are available at the Woodford State Bank in South Wayne. They will also be selling tickets from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. at The Vault on Sunday. If you are unable to make it to these locations, you can call Marne at 608-439-2013.
