SUN PRAIRIE - The Juda DECA Chapter won seven awards at a conference in Sun Prairie, after the Juda School Board approved the creation of the new organization in December.
DECA, an association of marketing students, is now available students at the Juda High School. With an initial membership of 13 students, the Juda DECA Chapter worked to prepare for the District Three Career Development Conference, which took place on Saturday, Jan. 12.
At the conference, 11 students participated in various DECA competitive events. Juda students chose to participate in hospitality management, travel and tourism marketing, sports and entertainment marketing, and business/service management. During these events, students participate in two individual or team role play scenarios and take two written exams, a marketing cluster exam and an economics exam. The role plays give students the chance to analyze a real-world scenario, come up with solutions, and present their ideas to a judge, who is an actual business leader in their event. The judges score the role plays based on a rubric, which include communication, professionalism and different key parts of the scenario.
Of the 11 students who participated, seven were awarded medals for scoring in the top of their event. Brianna Knudtson and Tabatha Davis were awarded individual medals in business/service management and Lucas Jordan was awarded an individual medal in sports and entertainment marketing. Camilla Klar and Jason Roth were awarded team medals in Hospitality Management and Tyler Davis and Coty Knudtson were awarded team medals in sports and entertainment marketing. Brianna Knudtson and the team of Jason Roth and Camilla Klar were finalists for the top spot in their events.
