MONROE - The Green County Junior Holstein Association will host the upcoming state Junior Holstein convention Jan. 2-4 at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton. Green County has one of the largest and most active junior associations in the state. They've been hard at work for the past 14 months, planning and fund raising, and are now finalizing all the details for the event. The theme for this year's event is "Crossin' the Line in 2009."
There are close to 500 people registered for the event from 26 different counties in Wisconsin, as well as a few neighbors from Minnesota. There will be many activities and competitions going on throughout the weekend including Dairy Quiz Bowl, Dairy Jeopardy, arts and crafts, photography, advertising, and speaking contests and advertising and cattle photography workshops.
Awards to be presented at the Saturday evening banquet include Under 12 Recognition, Younger Member Recognition, Distinguished Junior Member awards and Outstanding Holstein Boy and Girl. Some of the winners in the various contests will go on to represent Wisconsin at the National Holstein Convention in California in June. Many production and breeding recognition awards will also be presented.
Entertainment will feature Dr. Al Snyder, Hypnotist, on Friday evening and Josh Kappelman of Sound Waves At High Tension (S.W.A.H.T) will be the DJ for the Saturday evening dance party. Sunday morning will be the annual business meeting of the Wisconsin Jr. Holstein Association where four new district representatives will be elected.
