JUDA - Tim and Debbie Myers, along with their grandson Shad Hanson, hosted an exchange student from Japan as part of a 4-H cultural exchange program from July 22 through Aug. 18.

Riku Fujita of Tokyo, Japan, is part of a 49 member delegation visiting Wisconsin this summer through one of two partnering programs.

The programs, coordinated through the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension and States' 4-h International Programs, bring Japanese and Korean youth to Wisconsin 4-H homes and sends 4-Her's to Japan and Korea on a yearly basis.

Fujita arrived on the last day of Green County Fair. He was able to attend the Rock County Fair and a Brewers game, as well visiting Cave of the Mounds, the wind turbines in Lena and a cheese factory.

He visited many of the restaurants and shops on the Square and enjoyed the pirate theme on the Square. Fujita attended the farmers market, a family reunion and has taken several shopping trips to the mall and big box stores, which he does not have in Japan.

Fujita helped the family do daily chores on the farm, where he enjoyed all the animals.

The Myers' grandson, Shad Hanson, is the same age as Fujita; both are 14 years old. Hanson is a member of the New Horizons 4-H club and will begin his freshman year. He is looking to travel to Japan in 2014-15.
