MONROE - The Green County Historical Society is holding its January meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 in the upstairs meeting room at the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave.
Tom Mitchell, local historian, will give a presentation about J.T. Dodge. This is the 150th anniversary of the l861 publication of Green County's first plat map by Joseph T. Dodge (1823-1904). Dodge is a man who came to Monroe in May, 1855, with the railroad. When the Panic of 1857 slowed construction, he settled in Monroe, built a house, raised a family, invested in real estate and business.
