MONROE - The Green County Historical Society will be holding a silent auction from Aug. 7 through Cheese Days in September featuring commemorative coins, uncirculated coins, mint sets and a boxed 2010 Boy Scout commemorative silver dollar proof coin.
Many different coins will be featured, including a 1982 FDR 100th Anniversary, uncirculated Double Eagle silver dollar, a boxed 1982 George Washington (mounted on horse) silver half dollar, boxed 1978 Proof Set, 1980 and 1981 uncirculated coin sets featuring Kennedy half dollar and a packaged 1973 Norge (Norwegian coin) 25 Ore coin.
There will also be "Astonishing Coincidences" cards, Whitman Coin folders with coins and a first-day issue postcard of the Boy Scout World Jamboree, Idaho, 1967.
The Green County Historical Museum is featuring an exhibit entitled "100 Years of Boy Scouting in America." You can take in the exhibit and silent auction on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Cheese Days weekend.
The items were donated to the Historical Society by member Christine Wynar of Centennial, Colo.
The Museum is housed in the former Universalist Church. The museum features two full floors of displays including memorabilia from the cheese industry, beer industry, clothing and textiles and numerous other antique displays. The grounds of the museum also include the Bethel School, a one-room country school, so children of all ages can see how education was taught in our rural areas in years gone by. Admission to the museum for adults is $2 , $1 for children and free to children younger than 5.
