Community Brief

DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical Society will hold an upcoming program titled “Fur Trade Era,” presented by members of Yellowstone Flint and Cap Club at 1:30 p.m. Sunday Feb. 9 in the downstairs meeting room of the museum, 525 Main St. in Darlington. There will be period attire, and an explanation of the tools, weapons and accouterments common to that historical period.

This event is free and open to the public. There will be a presentation regarding use of furs of the time, and the challenges of the fur trade life, with demonstrations of skills such as fire starting (without matches). There will be ample time for questions and refreshments will be served.

The program will be preceded by the quarterly Historical Society Membership meeting, also open to the public at 1 p.m. To learn more about the museum or the historical society, come early to view the exhibits. For additional information, contact the museum at 608-776-8340.
