Highland Lifelong Learning offers new courses in February

Macramé Beverage Tote and Keychain 

Location: The Muse on Cedar Creek, 395 West N. Cedarville Rd., Freeport Ill. 

Registration Deadline: Feb. 3 

Class: Feb. 10; 6 - 8 p.m. 

Fee: $45 

Instructor: Catherine Urban 

In this beginner friendly class, participants will create their own cross body beverage tote and one keychain using colored ropes of their choice. Two great wearable pieces of art.


Lovers Fondue 

Location: The Muse on Cedar Creek, 395 West N. Cedarville Rd., Freeport Ill. 

Registration Deadline: Feb. 7 

Class: Feb. 14; 6:30 p.m. — 8:30 p.m. 

Fee: $55 

Instructor: Josh King-Slowinski 

Have a fun evening preparing a meal or two. You will prep the meat for fondue, and the sides for dessert fondue. Your romantic dinner for two will start with a specialty salad, your main course will include two side dishes, and finish with a chocolate fondue for dessert. Non-alcoholic drink included, wine and beer will be for sale. 


Maple Syrup 101 

Location: Highland Community College, Student/Conference Center (Building H), room H-127, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill. 

Registration Deadline: Feb. 8 

Class: Feb. 15, Feb. 22, Mar. 1; 6 — 7:30 p.m. 

Fee: $25 

Instructor: Bob Sutter 

This class is for the beginner backyard hobby producer who wants to start out in maple syruping and put out a few taps. In class you will learn how to tap a tree, collect the sap, process the sap, and bottling techniques. 


Weathering Change and Transformation 

Location: Higher Grounds Coffee, 1709 S West Ave, Freeport, Ill. 

Registration Deadline: Feb. 16 

Class: Feb. 23; 10 a.m. — 12 p.m. 

Fee: $27 

Instructor: Tari Heap 

Make no mistake, change takes courage. To transform yourself from who you are to who you yearn to be, you must learn to embrace change. But what do you do when you smash into the wall of all those old, deep-seated issues? This class will give you the tools to break through, weather those changes and transform yourself. 


Hand-Built Pottery Mug 

Location: Highland Community College, Ferguson Fine Art Center (Building F), room F-053, 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, Ill. 

Registration Deadline: Feb. 20 

Class: Feb. 27 and Mar. 13; 11 a.m. — 1 p.m. 

Fee: $52 

Instructor: Dana Russell-Brown 

Create a one of kind ceramic mug. The first session you will learn how to use a slab of clay and work from a template to build your mug as well as decorate and finish your mug. The second session you will learn basic glazing techniques and choose your colors. No tools or experience needed.
