FREEPORT - During their April meeting, Highland Community College trustees welcomed newly elected student trustee Austin Walker of Shannon. Rob Urish and David Shockey were sworn in after each was recently re-elected to another six-year term. The newly reorganized board elected David Shockey of Ridott as chairman and Rob Urish of Mount Morris as vice chairman. Terri Grimes was re-appointed to the position of secretary. Trustees also established their meeting schedule, which is available online at http://www.highland.edu/visitors/trustees.asp

Vice President of Administrative Services, Jill Janssen, was appointed Compliance Officer for the Colleges Identity Theft Prevention Program and will lead the effort to implement a federally mandated identity theft prevention program aimed at ensuring that the college implements policies and processes to protect the personally identifiable information of students and staff. The lecture hall in the Natural Science and Health Center will now be known as the "Charles Endress Lecture Hall" in honor of the late Charles Endress of Pearl City. The board approved this naming opportunity based on a generous gift from the Charles Endress Estate. Endress served as both principal and superintendent for the Lena-Winslow school district from 1969 - 1978. His brother, Dennis, served as an HCC trustee for over 17 years and his nephew, James Endress, is currently a board member.
