High school acappella choirs sing at Conference Honors

MONROE - Monroe High School's Acappella Choir, including Bridget Kelly, Alyssa Quinn, Alyssa Montgomery, Lindsey Buehler, Taylor Weis, Erica Hegi, Abby Kennison, Christina Wyttenbach, Eric Grau, Tyler Moser, Eric Ganshert, Eli Rucker, Michael Storey, Ian Geyer, Blake Antos, and Dylan Cleaveland, participated in the 2009 Badger Conference Honors Choir in Madison.

The 16 boys and girls that went to this event practiced for multiple weeks in school and the day of from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., with a successful final performance at 7:30 p.m. directed by Lucy Thayer, and Rick Bjella.

The women sang three songs, including: "Lake Isle of Inisfree" by Eleanor Day, "Gate, Gate" by Brian Tate, and "Psalm 100" by Rene Clausen. The men sang three songs as well that included "Jonah" by Rollo A. Dillworth, "The Drinking Song" by Ralph Vaughn Williams, and "Priest's Chorus" by W.A. Mozart.

The men and women then combined to sing "Mirabile Mysterium" by Taras Nahirniak, which was a great feet with not only a choir of 180 people from 10 different schools, including Baraboo, DeForest, Edgewood, Fort Atkinson, Monona Grove, Monroe, Mount Horeb, Oregon, Stoughton and Waunakee, but also a small orchestra including two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone, a tuba, and percussion. This was a successful event and we would like to thank all who participated as well as all who came to support them.
