MONROE — Heather Vautsmeier, RN, SSM Health Monroe Hospital Emergency Department nurse, is the newest recipient of the DAISY Award.

The DAISY Award is an international program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care delivered by nurses every day. Nurses may be nominated by patients, families and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen based on specific criteria to receive The DAISY Award.

Heather was nominated by fellow nurse, Tami Harding. Tami’s nomination highlighted a time when Heather went above and beyond to provide compassionate care for her patient and their family at end-of-life.

“Heather whole-heartedly shared their grief but stayed nearby-a familiar presence. The family entrusted the care of their loved one to Heather; she provided empathetic personal end-of-life care. Heather’s selflessness and compassion were a privilege to experience. She is most deserving of the DAISY Award for her care of both her patient and family during this difficult time,” wrote Harding.

Heather is one of three million nurses nationwide who represent the largest healthcare profession. SSM Health Monroe Hospital and SSM Health Monroe Clinic Medical Group employs over 230 nurses serving patients throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
