‘Healthy Houseplants’ coming to Green County
Flower

MONROE — The Green County Master Gardeners will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 in the Green County Justice Center, 28416th Street, Monroe. Lisa Johnson, Dane County Horticulture Educator, will be providing the educational tips for houseplants.

Lisa Johnson grew up in Madison’s southwest side. Lisa’s mother and grandfather were avid gardeners, and her love of plant life was encouraged by high-school biology teacher Marilyn Hanson. Lisa earned her undergraduate degree in Horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked at various local garden centers and nurseries before returning to the UW for a graduate degree in Agricultural Communications. She started her Cooperative Extension career first in Milwaukee County before returning to Dane County. Lisa started the Teaching Garden at Dane County UWEX in 2004 as an outdoor classroom for master gardeners, children and the general public. When not gardening, she enjoys playing folk music on guitar, autoharp and bowed psaltery and sharing quality time with her cats.

She will teach about selecting, watering, siting, fertilizing and repotting houseplants. She will also cover some common pests, pest ID and appropriate control measures. A review of a number of popular houseplant species and their cultural needs will round out the presentation.

Anyone interested in horticulture and gardening is welcome to join the tour or join the association and you do not have to be a Master Gardener to be a member.
