MONROE - Navigators from the Wisconsin Association of Free and Charitable Clinics will be at the Monroe Public Library from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday to help the public enroll in health insurance plans.

Open enrollment ended, but some consumers can sign up within 60 days if they have any of these special life events: Loss of coverage from a job; COBRA; BadgerCare Plus; are on a student health plan or are turning 26 and losing parent's insurance; making a permanent move to a new county; changes in household size, birth, adoption, marriage, divorce, legal separation or death; immigration, citizenship or lawful presence in the U.S.; or release from incarceration or jail. Members of a federally recognized tribe may enroll at any time of the year.

Navigators can help people apply for insurance exemptions and can answer shared responsibility (penalty) questions. Some individuals may qualify for an exemption from the tax penalty. The new Wisconsin Enrollment Connector Tool lists health insurance enrollment assistance locations and appointment options throughout the state. Wisconsin residents can access the tool either by calling 2-1-1, where a representative can make an appointment through the tool, or by going online to coveringwi.org to locate the closest enrollment site and book a time to meet with a local enrollment assister.

The following items must be brought to the appointments: Pay stubs and Social Security numbers for all wage earners in the household; information about any health insurance available through a job or a spouse's job; W2s/2015 tax returns if available; and a list of preferred doctors and any medications taken on a regular basis. This information allows the assister to find the best plan according to needs and budget.

Other sessions will be held in Green and Lafayette counties in April. Navigators will also be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29 at Monroe Public Library, 915 16th Ave., Monroe, and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. April 3, 10, 17 and 24 at Lafayette County Human Services, 15701 County K, Darlington, on the first floor.

Navigators are non-agent assistance providers, funded by a federal grant to provide Marketplace health insurance enrollment and education through collaboration with Covering Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Navigator Collaborative. The two navigators in southwestern Wisconsin are Ana Karina Burton and Yazmin Daleo. They have received extensive training by the federal government and the Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance on health insurance, BadgerCare Plus (Medicaid/Forward Health) and the Marketplace. Appointments can be made for Marketplace or BadgerCare Assistance by calling Burton at 608-331-0237 or Daleo at 608-331-0574. Both are bilingual Spanish health insurance navigators.

If unable to attend any of these events, non-insurance agent Marketplace and BadgerCare assistance is available at local libraries by appointment with Burton or Daleo.
