DARLINGTON - Lafayette County Health Department will be holding an immunization clinic on Friday, Dec. 28 at the Lafayette County Health Department, 729 Clay St.

With the number of influenza cases running higher than last year at this time, health officials are encouraging Wisconsin residents to get their flu shots.

"Wisconsin's influenza season started early this year, and we're seeing cases locally in Lafayette County as well," said Debbie Siegenthaler, Lafayette County Health Department director/health officer.

State health officials have also reported an increase in flu cases this year. There have been 113 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases reported this season, compared with seven cases at this time last year. Twelve people have been hospitalized for influenza this season, and there were no hospitalizations at this time last year.

The vaccine supply is ample and it is critical for older people and children to be protected. According to the CDC, everyone aged six months and older should be vaccinated. The vaccine is free for children age 6 months through 18 years.
