HCE honors members

MONROE - The Green County Association for Home and Community Education (HCE), formerly Extension Homemakers, held a Fall Recognition Event on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Roadhouse, Monroe. The event included a luncheon honoring members for their years of service, a short business meeting and an afternoon program.

Two members, Joyce Anderson and Kris Winkler, were honored as the "Educators of the Year." These special honorees have given many hours of service to educate and strengthen families and promote healthy community life. HCE members recognized for their significant years of service with the service organization included: Jane Puscas, Nancy Signer, 5 years; Mary Matteoni, 10 years; Lynn Lokken, 20 years; Elaine Gerber, Elaine Meier, 30 years; Barbara Kearns, Gloria Glass, 35 years; Annette Holmstrom, Avis Hendrickson, Donna Cockroft, Linda Kahl, 40 years; Mary Ann Stauffacher, Joan Rupnow and Ruth Hansen; 45 years. Special 25 year membership recognition was awarded to Tamara Schulte and Mary Wirth. Sixty years or more of HCE membership was celebrated by Marian Trumpy, Kathryn Hanson, Eunice Witt, Dorothy Chesebro, and Kittie May Whithead.

Matt Figi, local author, provided entertainment for the group as he presented information about Monroe becoming a village in the late 1850s.
