Haunted barn to open in Lena

ENA - The 19th annual Lena Community Haunted Barn is about to begin. This haunted attraction has been recognized with numerous regional and state awards.

The Haunted Barn is really two large barns with multiple levels of thrills and chills, connected by a 160-foot slide and the latest addition of the mind-altering, super spiral slide. Included in the hour-long adventure are 38 haunted scenes, more than 80 scares, two large changing mazes, a 5-revolution spiral slide, a Vertigo Vortex, seven levels of fear and illusion, and spook encounters from every angle. If that is not enough, participants exit the barns onto a dark haunted trail over a creek and through the woods before returning home.

Ticket holders are taken for a short ride to the Haunted Barn by buses and are returned by bus to the park as well. Concessions are available in the park and restrooms are provided at the park and at the Haunted Barn.

Nights of operation are all Fridays and Saturdays in October. Tickets are sold from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Friday and Saturday night at the Lena Lions Park. The first bus leaves for the Haunted Barn at 6:30 p.m. and will run until all ticket holders are returned to the park. This is an intense attraction and is not recommended for children under 8 years of age.

All tickets are $10 and need to be purchased at the Lena Lions Park, with entrance on Route 73 just north of Stage Coach Trail Road.

Anyone can receive $2 off the ticket price with a donation of a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry. For an additional fee, a special hearse will take riders directly to the barn.

Lena is located on IL Route 73, one mile north of U.S. Highway 20 and about 45 miles west of Rockford, Ill. It can also be accessed by the scenic Stagecoach Trail Road.
