SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Airman Kyle D. Hartley graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Hartley served in the 321 Training Squadron, and the band flight, Flight B479, playing the snare drum. Hartley’s flight received Commander’s Excellence during his eight-week basic training. Hartley was a flight element leader in charge of 13 trainees before being promoted to dorm chief of his flight of 50 trainees.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate’s degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force. Hartley graduated in 2006 from Auburn High School of Auburn, Illinois, and in 2010 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Illinois, with a bachelor of science degree in history and a minor in geography. Hartley is currently an Airman First Class studying meteorology at an Air Force technical school before he gets his first duty station for weather.

Hartley is the husband of Dani (Rupnow) Hartley and the son-in-law of Steve and Cindy Rupnow, all of Monroe.
