MONROE — The Green County Master Gardener’s Association held a fundraising plant sale on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Each year, the Green County Master Gardeners try to do a fundraiser to raise money to benefit their scholarship program or for other community outreach. This year’s outreach was to support the Green County Humane Society, in memory of actress Betty White who passed away in the Spring.
Plants were grown and donated by Master Gardeners’ throughout Green County for the sale and Master Gardeners were also on hand to answer questions. The main functions of the Master Gardeners group is to serve the needs of horticulturists in the Green County area, provide continuing education for its members, provide community services through volunteer activities, exchange gardening ideas, promote responsible and sound gardening practices and to provide a link between the community and University of Wisconsin-Division of Extension resources.
The Green County Master Gardeners Association was formed in 2004 to provide Master Gardeners with opportunities for professional development and community service. Over 135 people have been trained since that time. Members of the association volunteer in community service projects throughout Green County. To maintain the Extension Master Gardener Certification, participants are required to complete at least 24 hours of community service and participate in a minimum of 10 hours of educational development on a yearly basis.
The Green County Master Gardeners Association meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from February through October. Association officers for 2022 included Tamara Schulte, President; Sharon Adams, Vice President; Linda Boll, Secretary; and Lynn Lokken as Treasurer.
