DARLINGTON - Commander Jason King of the Darlington Sons of the American Legion presented Legion Commander Dennis Murphy with a $4,000 Home Depot Foundation grant award at the Legion's monthly meeting on Sept. 2.

The grant application was submitted earlier this year by the S.A.L. on behalf of the Legion Post in an effort to raise funds to remodel the upstairs hall of the Post. Funds will be used to improve the energy efficiency and overall aesthetics of the main hall at the Bates, O'Brien, Howe, Wiegel, Roelli Post 214.

The Legion building is used by veterans to carry out the mission of the American Legion, but is also used by the Boy Scouts, American Red Cross, Friendship Fund and other charitable organizations at no cost.

The $4,000 grant represents only a fraction of the cost of the overall project, which is estimated at $20,000. S.A.L. is currently selling raffle tickets to raise funds for other aspects of the remodeling project. The raffle cash prizes and the drawing will occur at the Legion Post just prior to the Friendship Fund benefit auction on Sunday.

Raffle tickets are still available at First National Bank, Town Bank and Mathys Ace Hardware. Tickets will also be on sale at the Legion Post during the steak and chicken dinner on Sunday. For those who may not be interested in participating in the raffle but would like to contribute, donations may be mailed to the Sons of the American Legion, 1310 Main St., Darlington, WI 53533.
