MONROE - Members of the Green County Abuse Prevention Team (GCAPT) held their December meeting at Vince's Ristorante and Pizzeria. After lunch the team presented the owner, Fabio Grado, with a plaque in recognition of his generous support of their annual spaghetti supper fundraising event.

The fundraising activity takes place every April during National Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year's fundraising proceeds benefited the Child Advocacy Center of Green County. Grado donated all the spaghetti and the garlic bread served at the event as well his own and staff's time. Each year the proceeds rotate among the three not-for-profit agencies who are members of the team: Green Haven Family Advocates, Sexual Assault Recovery Program and the Child Advocacy Center.

GCAPT is a group of professionals from diverse agencies as well as concerned community members who work together to coordinate efforts to prevent sexual and domestic abuse of children and adults. Sexual and domestic abuse prevention and intervention activities have been successfully continued in Green County by the Sexual Assault Recovery Program and Green Haven Family Advocates which are both members of GCAPT.

Two years ago, after much planning and cooperative hard work, and led by the Child Protection Services of Green County, the GCAPT was successful in creating the Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC provides a child-friendly forensic interview space for child victims of abuse as well as educational and emotional support services for their families and loved ones. The space for the center is provided and sponsored by Monroe Clinic.

GCAPT was established in 1995 with a mission of reducing sexual and domestic abuse incidents in the Green County communities.
