MONROE - Get ready to celebrate Monroe's 150-year history in an entertaining way. The theatrical production of "The Monroe Gold Files!" is a wholesome, fun-for-the-whole family, detective comedy with occasional songs that pays tribute to Monroe's 150-year history.

Auditions for this special production will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 and Friday, Sept. 12, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Monroe Theatre Guild's new home at 910 16th Avenue - the former STAGE building across from the Monroe Public Library.

This cast of 60 will include: 20-30 kids in first through eighth grade. A Swiss singing background would be helpful but not necessary; 20 high school roles - some speaking and some non-speaking; 20-30 adult roles - some speaking and some non-speaking. There are musical numbers throughout the show but many of the roles are non-singing.

For the audition, you will be asked to read excerpts from the script. If you are auditioning for a musical role, you will be asked to sing "Happy Birthday" and demonstrate movement. Scripts will be available for perusal at the Monroe Public Library after Sept. 5.

The production, directed by Nadine and Troy Whiteman and written by Stephen and Katee Eliasson, is sponsored by The Swiss Colony, Monroe Clinic, and the Monroe School District. Performances will be held Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 13-16, at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.
