MONROE - Area Girl Scouts troops are raising funds for local service projects and activities through the sale of chocolates, nuts and magazines. The fun raising program, "in a nutshell...," will run Friday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Oct. 27.

In addition to providing money for girls to pay for program opportunities, camp and community service projects, the program is designed to help girls learn five key skills: Goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics and people skills.

Items being sold this year include: Caramel treasures in a collectible Girl Scout flower pot tin, chocolate covered pretzels in a penguin-themed holiday tin, dark chocolate mint penguins, dulce de leche owls, deluxe pecan clusters, butter toasted peanuts, whole cashews, peanut butter bears, salsa mix, cranberry nut mix, chocolate covered raisins and peanuts, blueberry pomegranate crunch and fruit slices.

Prices range from $6 to $9 for the nuts and sweets. Customers may also purchase new or renewal magazine subscriptions.

Project Thank You is a service project allowing Badgerland Girl Scout customers the option to purchase "virtual" nut and candy products to be donated. This allows customers to support Girl Scouts and local military families. For each $7 donation, Badgerland will donate a nut item or magazine subscription to organizations supporting military families around Badgerland.

Badgerland Council Girl Scouts will be selling Girl Scout cookies beginning Saturday, Feb. 8, the same day as National Girl Scout Cookie Day.
