MONROE — The Green County Historical Society will hold its 2025 season opening on June 7 as well as its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the museum, located at 1617 9th Street next to the Stop N Go station.
A general board meeting will be held, elections of officers and yearly reports will be given. All members are encouraged to attend to take part in voting on items needing votes of the majority of membership attending. After the meeting, local contractor Jeff Neises will give a short program on antique tools and how they were used.
GCHS encourage all members to attend to learn about the Society and all the events it participates in. GCHS has joined Main Street of Monroe and have held several events relating to them. This season they have led a Trivia Night at the Cactus & Co and participated in the Wine Walk, with many guests happy to be able to see inside the “gated church next to Stop N Go”. The City Wide garage sales had many collectible items for sale. For Flag Day — Saturday, June 14 — the GCHS Museum is open from 1-4 p.m. Mike Furgal will be there to explain flag etiquette from 1-2:30 p.m. In July, GCHS will host a “Garden Walk” at Terry Goetz’s country home.
The one-room Bethel schoolhouse will also be open for visitors this season. Those that attended a one-room schoolhouse can reminisce, and those that didn’t can see first-hand how a small country schoolroom looked. On Sept. 27, GCHS will close the museum for the season but continue its presence participating in the Art Walk in October. The annual Moose fundraising breakfast will be held Nov. 2. The 5th annual Holiday Décor Sale will also be in November.
All interested parties are encouraged to attend to learn more about the historical society. The GCHS Museum is handicapped accessible.
