MONROE - The 10th annual Green County Alzheimer's Walk, which was held Saturday, Sept. 10, raised more than $39,000 to support the programs and services of the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin. More than 214 people walked from the Behring Senior Center.

"The support we receive from the community is phenomenal," said Paul Rusk, Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance Executive Director. "People came to raise awareness for this challenging disease and to ensure that people have access to our services so they can create the best possible quality of life for everyone involved."

Colony Brands, Inc. won the trophy for the largest team (29), and Pleasant View Nursing Home raised the most money ($6,151). The family teams raising the most money were Mimi's Team and Bea's Friends. Individual fundraising awards went to Vickie Jones and Michael Wolff.

In addition to the walk, the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance is offering "ABCs of Alzheimer's and Dementia" workshops. The first workshop was held Tuesday, Sept. 20. The second workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St., Monroe. The sessions will include information on medical aspects of dementia, research, effects of dementia on the person, safety, communication and much more. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated. Call ahead to register.
