Free City Band concerts set for summer season

MONROE - The Monroe City Band will start the summer of free public concerts at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 8, at the Twining Park Bandshell in Monroe. Following the traditional opening with the "Star Spangled Banner," the concert will continue with "Old Comrades," a march by Carl Teike, edited by John R. Bourgeois; "Chorale and Capriccio," by Caesar Giovannini, scored for band by Wayne Robinson; "Broadway Center Stage," a medley, arranged by Paul Murtha; "Cordoba" by Ernesto Lecuona, arranged by Larry Anthony; and "A Johnny Mercer" medley, arranged by Frank D. Cofield.

Also included in the program are: "The Good Ol' West," a medley, arranged by James Christensen; and "King Cotton," a march. The Rev. David Busker will be announcer for this program and Randy Schneeberger is the director of the Monroe City Band. The next concert will be June 22.
