NEW GLARUS - In celebration of the season opening of the Swiss Historical Society, the New Glarus Historical Society has announced it is partnering with the village of New Glarus' "Downtown Open House" by offering free admission Saturday.
Starting in 1942 with just one log cabin, the Community House, the Swiss Historical Village and Museum has grown to 14 historic buildings, a Hall of History and a visitor center. The museum shares the 1845 migration story of Swiss colonists to Wisconsin, shows the evolution of agriculture and dairy farming and explains New Glarus' transformation into a tourist destination.
The Swiss Historical Village and Museum is located at 612 7th Ave., New Glarus, and is open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from May 1 to Oct. 15. For more information, visit the website at swisshistoricalvillage.org.
