Fowler Dental Clinic receives grant from CFSW

MONROE — Fowler Dental Clinic (FDC) announced June 24 that it had received a grant of $3,000 from the Jane Lysaght Memorial Fund (a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc.) to help cover oral surgery costs for a family in need.

Although Fowler Dental Clinic now serves local individuals of all ages on ForwardHealth, it hasn’t forgotten its roots as a pediatric clinic initially intended to help low-income area children. Near the end of 2020, FDC saw a young child for a routine dental check-up where dental exams revealed that the child had deep decay present on 16 of their 20 baby teeth. Due to the child’s age and amount of decay, it was recommended that the patient seek surgical intervention.

After FDC became aware that the child’s case was getting increasingly worse with no other options for care, it was determined that the child would be eligible to receive care through a collaboration between Fowler Dental Clinic and the neighboring Monroe Clinic to ensure that the patient could receive treatment in the hospital operating room under general anesthesia. Further, Fowler Dental Clinic decided to make the surgery fully accessible to the family by covering the surgical costs in full.

The grant used to assist with the child’s surgical costs is made available from the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin’s Jane Lysaght Memorial Fund and the Monroe Fund.  The Jane Lysaght Memorial Fund and the Monroe Fund are resources for area nonprofit organizations whose programs and services are working for the betterment of our communities.  Grants from these funds have supported the arts, education, environment, health and human services, and historic preservation.
