MADISON - Supporters of Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin received awards at the 18th Annual Governor's Donor Recognition Reception, hosted by First Lady Jessica Doyle at the Executive Residence on June 25. The event recognizes those that make significant contributions in support of Second Harvest Foodbank's mission to end hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. Two honorees for 2009 include Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Madison and The Swiss Colony, Inc.
A top-10 food donor in 2008, this Green County corporation provided more than 98,000 meals to those struggling with hunger throughout the Foodbank's service area. In addition, The Swiss Colony donates thousands of pounds of cardboard boxes, which the Foodbank uses to distribute food repackaged from very large bulk donations into family size portions. This donation greatly reduces expenses Second Harvest would have to otherwise incur in purchasing boxes, so its financial resources can be used to acquire more food to meet the growing need.
