MONROE - Area residents, renters and business owners who had damages from the rain and flooding during June and July only have a few days left to register with FEMA. The deadline to register is Sept.15. Applicants can call FEMA at (800) 621-3362, online at www.fema.gov and speech and hearing impaired persons can call the TTY line at (800) 462-7585. Green County Emergency Management strongly encourages everyone, even if you have the slightest damages, to register.
After you register a packet of information will be sent to you and it is very important to fill out and return the SBA application. Even if you are not interested in a loan you must return the application, as you can turn down the loan if you are eligible for it. Failure to return the SBA application will prevent you from receiving any further benefits from FEMA that you may be entitled to. There is also an Emergency Assistance Program grant for a Green County resident that is administered through the state of Wisconsin - but again you must register with FEMA to be eligible to apply for this.
People who have applied to FEMA and received a letter of denial or who did not receive enough funding to make adequate repairs - have the right to appeal this, and have 60 days after your denial letter to appeal. Many times the denial letters are sent out because something wasn't filled out right or information may be missing and you should appeal it by calling FEMA and checking into it. For further assistance, call the Green County Emergency Management office at (608) 328-9416.
