FCCLA attends conference

NEW GLARUS - New Glarus Middle and High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapters attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference April 9-11 in Wisconsin Dells. A total of 22 students were in attendance from New Glarus middle and high schools.

Over the course of the three days, students attended breakout sessions, heard keynote speakers, gained leadership skills and competed in STAR Events. Abby Marty and Kortney Peterson also represented as regional representatives, assisting with the behind the scenes of the conference.

Haiden Zimmerman ran for and was elected by fellow Wisconsin FCCLA members to become the 2018-19 Wisconsin FCCLA state president. She had to complete a written business letter, FCCLA test, an interview and give a two-minute speech to over 900 FCCLA members and advisers. The voting was done by voting delegates from across the state. New Glarus voting delegates were Jessy Ruckman, Annelisa Smith, Abby Marty and Kendra Wenger.

Students who attended, competed and were awarded medals are: Annelisa Smith, Haiden Zimmerman and Keatan Zimmerman, chapter service project display - gold medal; Alexa Thayer, children's literature - gold medal; Kortney Peterson, children's literature - gold medal; Kendra Wenger, culinary creations - top gold medal; Ellie Eichelkraut, Peyton Yaun and Riley Keehn, focus on children - silver; and Dayna Karls, Emma Marty and Libby Maclean, sports nutrition - gold medal.

Haiden Zimmerman completed her role as the 2017-18 Wisconsin FCCLA vice president of community service. Julie Martin attended as the middle and high school FCCLA adviser.
