MONROE - The Madison Cuzco Sister City Project presents "Explore Cuzco," from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St., Monroe.
The "navel of the universe" as the ancient Incas called it, Cuzco has long been a popular tourist destination for its mix of Spanish and Inca history. Join us for a presentation of traditional Andean shamanism with shaman Don Martin and Marco Nunez of Cuzco Peru and trekking adventure with Vic Villacrez of Madison.
Marco Nunez has been guiding people through the Andes for over 30 years and his business, Frontier Expeditions, specialize in programs such as Adventures of the Soul and Shaman Tours. Nunez and Don Martin will demonstrate an ancient spiritual offering and talk about the importance of the shaman in the present-day belief system of Andean healing and health.
Also, in October 2007, Victor Villacrez trekked 60 miles from Cachora to Machu Picchu.
The journey took him to the ancient ruins of Choquequirao through the Cordillia Vilcabamba on to the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu.
Villacrez captured his seven day adventure in film and will present a slide of the remote beauty of Choquequirao, the mystery of the 21 llamas and the endless climb back through time to Machu Picchu.
Villacrez has trekked through the Cuzco region six times and has worked with Peruvian tour agencies to explore new routes of adventure to Machu Picchu.
