MONROE - The Green County Humane Society is hosting a Volunteer Orientation for anyone interested in learning more about helping the animal shelter.

The orientation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today in the upstairs meeting room of the Monroe Public Library.

Volunteers can now sign up to work specific days and shifts at the shelter. Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 9:30 to noon every day to wash cat and dog dishes; from noon until 2 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. everyday to walk dogs; and from noon to 3 p.m. Monday and Wednesday to socialize and groom dogs and cats.

There are also off-site opportunities, including making follow-up phone calls to adopters, public relations and fundraising.

GCHS operates a no-kill animal shelter at 1500 6 1/2 Ave. in Monroe.
