MADISON - Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, along with Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods, recently announced a contest inviting local kids and teens to design the graphics that will appear on a new Foodbank truck as part of a celebration of Second Harvest's 25th anniversary.
Using the theme "Take Action Against Hunger," the children's artwork can represent the meaning of food in a child's life, like sharing a meal with family and friends, and how kids can help others who don't have enough food to eat.
The contest is open to children 5 to 18 who live within the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin's 16-county service area.
Multiple entries from the same child will be accepted. Up to two winning designs may be selected - one for each side of the truck, and the winning artists must be able to participate in the unveiling and commemoration of the new truck on Sept. 17, 2011.
The new truck is being added to the fleet in an effort to better serve southwestern Wisconsin families and individuals struggling with hunger.
From July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011, Second Harvest Foodbank distributed 8.6 million pounds of food, officials said in a release.
