The Ken Kilian Orchestra will play Big Band style music for the Driver Opera House Dance Sunday, Oct. 13 in Darlington.

DARLINGTON —  Many of the dances at the Driver Opera House in the 1940s and 1950s were sponsored by the American Legion.

On St. Patrick’s Day in 1951 the last dance was held at the Driver Opera House on the corner of Main Street and Ann Street in Darlington. Sixty-eight years later, there will once again be dancing at the Driver Opera House.

The Darlington American Legion will partner with Driver Opera House Restoration, Inc. to host this event from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 with the Ken Kilian Orchestra. Doors will open by 12:15 p.m.

Ken Kilian’s Orchestra will provide Big Band style music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington, in addition to the more modern sounds of Michael Bublé and Harry Connick, Jr.

Note that the second-floor opera house has no elevator and is not yet fully restored or handicapped accessible.

The American Legion will sell beverages. Snacks and sweet treats will also be sold, and the Driver will sell their famous handmade felted wool and cashmere mittens and more.
