Doyle helps raise top dollar at auction

WEST ALLIS - Officials of the Wisconsin State Fair announce the 40th anniversary of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction at the 2008 Wisconsin State Fair was extremely successful. The auction kicked off promptly at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Coliseum at the Fair Park and was emceed by Auctioneer Bob Johnson of Milton with Governor Jim Doyle on and off stage encouraging bidders to top the last bid.

In total, 26 Junior Market steers, barrows and lambs were auctioned off raising a grand total of $126,700. The award structure is a sliding percentage scale based on the amount of the auction sale price. The scale increases in $5,000 increments with 80 percent awarded for an auction sale price between $1-$5,000, and 60 percent to the exhibitor for a sale price more than $50,000. The remaining percentage is applied to youth scholarships, grants and auction expenses.

The judges who selected the champion animals for the Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction were: LeMaster - Junior Market Steer; Ryan Watje - Junior Market Barrows (Swine); and Justin Jonas - Junior Market Lambs.

Area winning bids for the 2008 Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction are:

• Grand Champion Market Lamb (Breed: Hampshire) exhibited by Tierney Reilly of Lafayette County; Winning Bid of $8,500 by Saz's, Leff's Lucky Town, Zimmerman Design Group, Spectrum Development, Rowbottom Partners, Bunzel's Meat Market, All City Motors, and the Milwaukee Admirals

• Reserve Grand Champion Steer (Breed: Chi Maine) exhibited by Justin Wedig of Lafayette County; Winning Bid of $9,000 by Miller Coors (donated to Salvation Army)

• Champion Maine-Anjou Steer exhibited by Mitchell Wedig of Lafayette County; Winning Bid of $6,000 by Badger State Ethanol

• Champion Chester White Barrow exhibited by Tierney Reilly of Lafayette County; Winning Bid of $2,750 by Giant Slide, Inc., Sky Fair Inc., Sunshine Concessions of Hernando, G & G Concessions and Crutchees Concessions (Donated to Wisconsin State Fair Park Youth Foundation)

• Champion Spotted Barrow exhibited by Josh Lowe of Lafayette County; Winning Bid of $2,000 by Budweiser Pavilion
