MONROE — SSM Health Monroe Hospital is proud to be the first hospital to partner with The Sons of American Legion Detachment of Wisconsin’s Operation A.L.F. Pup Program.
This program stands for ‘American Legion Family’ and offers a soft cuddly companion to children who are hospitalized at SSM Health Monroe Hospital. A.L.F. pups are intended to help pediatric patients cope with difficult times in their lives.
“Our communities are incredibly supportive of our Veterans and through this donation we are able to give back in a unique way,” shared Peter Blum, The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 84 Commander. “While we don’t wish children to be in the hospital, we hope these A.L.F. pups can bring a little comfort during their time at SSM Health.”

In addition to hospitalized children, A.L.F. support pups are given to children of deployed military service members.
“This thoughtful gift will provide comfort and a smile during what can be a very scary time for children and their families,” said Stacie Natter, SSM Health Monroe Hospital Inpatient & ICU Manager. “On behalf of our care teams, and the future families these pups will benefit, we express our gratitude for The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 84.”
The Sons of The American Legion is a service organization that was established in the 1930’s during the Great Depression to support veterans and veterans’ causes.
