MONROE - The Monroe Optimist Club is partnering with the Brodhead Optimist Club to host the Optimist International Oratorical Contest Jan. 15 at the Brodhead Public Library.
The theme of this year's speeches is "Where Are My Roots of Optimism?" The contest is open to all students age 17 and younger as of Oct. 1.
Applications for the contest are due Dec. 15. They can be obtained from and submitted to students' English teachers, the Monroe Middle School office or the Monroe High School guidance office. A speaking schedule will be published once all applications have been submitted. Awards will include medallions and cash prizes at the club level, plaques at the zone level and plaques and scholarships of up to $2,500 at the district level.
