DARLINGTON - The close-knit community of Darlington will come together on March 15, to help a sick little boy named Landon McGuire. Landon McGuire was born six weeks premature with a condition called Necrotizing Entercolitis, a gastrointestinal disease. As a result of this diagnosis, Landon needed two-thirds of his small intestine removed, has had pneumonia and RSV, and has spent three and a half months in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a Madison hospital. He also requires a costly formula due to his special nutritional needs.

A benefit fundraiser to assist Landon and his family will be held March 15 at The Ranch House Lanes and Supper Club, located at 17096 State Road 23 in Darlington. This "Family Fun Day and Silent Auction" benefit will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public. A portion of the food proceeds, as well as silent auction and raffle proceeds will benefit the McGuire family to help offset Landon's medical expenses.

The fundraiser is being organized by members of National Mutual Benefit Branch 480 and friends of the family. National Mutual Benefit will match funds raised, up to $2,500. Other sponsors include the Darlington Lions Club and Thrivent Financial For Lutherans.

Families in Darlington and surrounding communities are invited to this special day of family fun, which will include bowling at a reduced rate, food for purchase, raffles, and a silent auction.

"We have always known that Darlington and the surrounding community has a big heart...willing to reach out to others during difficult times. From all of the generosity we have seen already, we're sure this benefit will be a big success," said fundraising organizers Carol Barnard, Mary Jo Erickson, Maggie McGuire, and Dana Wedig.

Landon is the son of Ryan and Vicki McGuire and the grandson of Jim and Connie Meier, Bob McGuire and Geralyn Prine.
