BRODHEAD - The Brodhead Dance Academy dancers will host more than 1,500 guests in three sold-out shows on May 21 and 22 at the Brodhead High School.
This year's theme is "Once upon a Dance" and features fairy tales and performances by eight graduating students from the class of 2016. More than 200 dancers will be performing from Monroe, Juda, Lake Summerset, Albany, Oregon, Argyle, Footville, Orfordville and Beloit.
Liberties were taken on some classic tales, and a few favorite performances from past years are included. The performance will have 43 numbers and 300 costumes.
In December, the academy moved to a new location next to the Brodhead Post Office in the former hardware store. A full renovation created a dance facility with two studios featuring hardwood sprung floors, barres, mirrors and waiting space for parents.
Summer dance class registration is now open online with 19 class offerings available for students age 3 to adult. Classes begin June 21 for a six-week session. New this summer are an African-tribal dance and fitness class, theatrical dance/show choir prep class, strength and flexibility class, and fairy-tale ballet for the youngest dancers.
Fall registration also is open now online with an open house planned in late July for new students to register, get supplies and meet their teachers. For more information, visit www.brodheaddance.com or follow the academy on Facebook.
