Crowley 4-H award winner named

MONROE - Brooks Hendrickson, a member of the Dayton Dairylanders 4-H club, was named the Green County 4-H Crowley Leadership Award winner for the 2011-12 4-H year. John Klossner, member of the New Glarus 4-H Club, was named runner-up.

As county winners, Hendrickson, a senior at Belleville High School, and Klossner, a senior at New Glarus High School, earn the chance to compete for state-level awards, including two $500 scholarships that will be awarded for continuing dairy education. The state competition will consist of interviews conducted during the Wisconsin State Fair in August.

Hendrickson is the son of Jeff and Kate Hendrickson, and is an 11-year member of the Dayton Dairylanders 4-H club. He was selected for outstanding accomplishments in his school and community, and accomplishments relating to the dairy industry. He assists with his family's farm where they milk approximately 100 registered Holsteins. Hendrickson has been involved in local, district and state Holstein events and activities and plans to attend University of Wisconsin-Platteville this fall, majoring in dairy science. He also shows cattle at various local, district and state levels and has earned 4-H and FFA Dairy Judging honors.

Klossner, son of Richard and Roxanne Klossner, New Glarus, has also been active in local and state dairy activities and organizations. He has also been an active 4-H member participating in a wide variety of projects and also serving as a 4-H Ambassador. Klossner has shown dairy cattle for the past 10 years and has been active in both 4-H and FFA. Klossner recently participated on the Wisconsin 4-H team that won the 2011 NAILE 4-H Dairy Judging Contest in Louisville, Ky. He plans to attend college this fall at either UW-Madison or UW-Platteville to pursue a degree in dairy science.

The James W. Crowley Dairy Management and Extension Fund sponsors the 4-H dairy award program. James W. Crowley was a longtime UW-Extension dairy specialist and strong supporter of dairy youth project work.
