FREEPORT - The Stephenson County Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9 through Sunday, July 14.
Tuesday, July 9
The day begins with the goat show at 8 a.m. The sheep, beef, rabbits, cavies, and poultry shows will begin in their respective barns starting at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the 4-H swine show will take place in the swine barn. The dairy show follows at 9:30 a.m.
The 4-H cake walk will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. near the home ec building. Cakes, cookies, breads, muffins and candies made by 4-H members will be available. All proceeds go to the 4-H program.
Stephenson County 4-H Federation will open its Pizza Hut stand in the 4-H building. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4:30 to 8 p.m. through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, the stand will remain open until 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday's Youth Night is schedule from 6 to 10 p.m. in the grandstand. Starting at 6 p.m., the chicken scratch and pig scramble will be held. The fair queen and little miss will be introduced at 7 p.m. Tug of war begins at 7:30 p.m., where teams face off to win a cash prize. The evening will conclude with the Ag Olympics contest at 8 p.m.
Wednesday, July 10
The cat show will be held at 8 a.m. in the rest and entertainment tent. The 4-H Dress Revue, where garments will be judged for construction, fit and appearance, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. in the rest and entertainment tent. The 4-H'ers In Action, a showcase of a variety of 4-H projects, will be held at 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 11
The Parade of Excellence will be held at 6 p.m. in the rest and entertainment tent. During the event, trophies will be presented to 4-H project winners other than livestock. The livestock winners will receive trophies at their respective shows.
Friday, July 12
Throughout the fair, each 4-H club has a display booth in the 4-H Building under the grandstand. The booths are promoting the 4-H theme, "4-H - Find Your Future" and will be judged prior to that week so be sure to look at them and find your favorite. Non-perishable foods and hygiene items will also be collected under the grandstand for the 4-H House of Cans booth. Each 4-H club will compete to see which club donates the most items. Members of the public may also make contributions to the 4-H House of Cans. All items collected will be given to FACC, and the Le-Win, Pearl City, and German Valley food pantries. There will also be booths displaying projects, Federation activities, and State Fair Projects.
Saturday, July 13
The Junior Livestock Auction begins at 9 a.m. in the Swine Show Arena. During the auction, the 4-H Federation will be selling pop, bottled water, coffee, donuts, chips and candy bars. The 4-H Pizza Hut stand will serve from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
