Transition meetings set for Aug. 23, 24
DARLINGTON - Separate parent and student meetings will be held to provide information regarding transitioning to Darlington High School. Both meetings will be held at the Darlington High School Auditorium.
The parent meeting will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and will cover student homeroom assignments, student schedules, home-school communication, career planning, question and answer, and an optional tour of the building.
The student meeting will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, and will cover schedules, locker assignments, general school policies, and an optional tour of the building.
Classes at Darlington High School begin Thursday, Sept. 1.

Youth takes part in Youth Program
MONROE - Maija Liimatainen, Monroe, recently participated in the Youth Programs on the campus of Michigan Technological University.
That's where middle school and high school students from across the nation - and around the globe - can choose from more than 70 explorations in business, computing, engineering, humanities and social sciences, outdoor and environmental studies, and science and technology.
She took part in the general engineering program.

Golf outing slated for Aug. 26
MONROE - The Merit Center Four-Person Scramble Golf Outing will be held Friday, Aug. 26, at Monroe Country Club, 2205 21st St., Monroe, with a start time of 10 a.m.
The cost is $65 per golfer, and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, meal and prizes. The meal will be held after golf at Old Smokey's, 1301 17th St. Awards and prizes will be given out at the meal.

Chamber golf event set for Sept. 7
MONROE - The third annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Monroe Country Club, Monroe.
The four-player scramble outing will begin with registration at 12:30 p.m. and shotgun start at 1 p.m. In addition there will be a cash bar at 5:30 p.m., as well as a dinner, awards ceremony and silent/live auction at 6:30 p.m. The fee is $85 per player with advance registration before Aug. 27, or $100 per player after Aug. 27. Fee includes greens fee, cart, box lunch on cart and dinner after the golf outing. The cost for dinner only is $30.
Mulligans cost $5 each or 5 for $20, and the maximum is two per golfer. Red tee shot, where the foursome shoots from red tees, limit to one hole only, is $20 per team.
Teams will have the opportunity to win $1 million, a new car, a 52" HDTV and many other prizes through the live and silent auctions. Attendees and participants do not have to be Chamber members. Prizes for first, second and third place of the golf outing will be awarded during the dinner program.

Concert at church on tap for Sunday
MONROE - A concert featuring Carl and Ruth Engstrom will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church, 853 31st Ave.
The concert will feature instrumental duets, vocal duets, vocal solos, testimonies and scripture, as well as traditional hymns and gospel music played, sung and spoken by the Engstroms.
