Park and Recreation Department employee Scott Feldt adds mulch to a new planting.

MONROE — The Monroe Parks & Recreation Department is now taking orders for the Spring Terrace Tree Planting.

The cost listed for all the trees, except the Emerald Lustre Maple, is half the regular cost of the tree. The other half is being covered with a 2019 Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry grant.

Maple trees are not eligible for grant funding due to the high population of maple species in Monroe.

Trees available for the spring planting include: London Planetree, $38; Turkish Hazelnut, $83; American Sentry Linden, $78; Regal Prince Oak, $74; Sky Line Honey Locust, $43; Emerald Lustre Maple, $75; and low growing trees: Cleveland Select Pear, $32; and Ivory Silk Lilac, $34.

Tree orders for spring planting will be taken through Friday, April 5 and planting will begin the week of April 22.

To order, stop at the Parks and Recreation office in the lower level of City Hall, 1110 18th Ave.

Upon ordering, planting details and a flag that should be posted where you want your tree planted will be given.

Feel free to call the office at 329-2460 or Parks Supervisor/City Forester Josh Trame at 329-2469 with any questions.
