City recreation dept. offers winter fun

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is taking registrations for the following programs.

• Fourth-Sixth Grade Basketball: Boys and girls leagues will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Monday's after school beginning Jan. 5 through Feb. 16. All games and practices will be held at Northside School. There is a boys division and a girls division. Teams will have players from fourth through sixth grades from all the grade schools and middle school. The gym will be split into two courts with boys playing on one half and the girls on the other half. Participants will work on their basketball skills, fun drills and play games from 3:30-5 p.m.

The cost to participate in this basketball program is $19 which includes a T-shirt. Registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Department.

• Tumblin' Fun: Tumbling participants will be tumbling, climbing the rope, using a spring board, hula hoops and more. The class begins Monday, Jan. 5 through Feb. 16 and will be held at Northside gym. Tumbling is for children ages 4 - 8 years old. Cost to participate is $23 for Monroe residents and $30 for non-residents.

• Holiday Stamping: Mothers and daughters are welcome to join the scrapbooking fun. Bring favorite Christmas photos, and Cherri Fields will give instruction on scrapbooking. Girls should be at least in the second grade to participate. Scrapbooking is held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, at the Community Center. Cost is $15 per person for Monroe residents and $22 for non-residents.

Registration will end on Jan. 5. To register call the Parks and Rec department at 329-2460 or stop in the office which is located in the basement of City Hall, 1110 18th Ave., Monroe. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, open during the noon hour, and they have a drop box outside the office.
