MONROE - The Monroe City Band is set to begin rehearsing for its 64th season and is seeking new members.

Rehearsals are held at 7:30 p.m. Mondays in the Monroe Middle School band room beginning on April 15. Membership is open to all those who play wind or percussion instruments and have at least three years of playing experience on their instrument. There is no membership fee. Needed especially this season are players on clarinet, trumpet and percussion.

The group performs a series of summer concerts free and open to the public in the Swiss-style band shell in Monroe's Twining Park. This year's season will begin with a show at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 10. The group's repertoire includes traditional "park band" music, including marches, overtures and show tune medleys, as well as movie music and works written specifically for the modern concert band.

Theme concerts and guest soloists are also part of the musical mix. This year's concerts are scheduled for June 10, June 24, July 4, July 15 and July 29.

Musicians interested in finding out more about joining the band can contact band director Randy Schneeberger at 608-325-9722.
