City Band caps 60th summer season

MONROE - The Monroe City Band will present the final concert of its 60th year at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, in the Twining Park bandshell. The concert is free and open to the public.

The July 27 concert will open with the "Star Spangled Banner" presented by the Monroe Swiss Singers and the band, with an arrangement by Randy Schneeberger. Next will be "Barcelona," by Paul Yoder; "Ballet Parisien," an overture by Jacques Offenbach, arranged by Merle J. Isaac; "Light Cavalry," an overture by F. von Suppe, as arranged by Henry Fillmore; "British Grenadiers," arranged by Al Cobine; the "Wabash Cannonball," by The Younger Brothers and featuring Tim Schneeberger; and "Broadway Journey," a medley, arranged by James Christensen.

The Swiss Singers will combine with the Monroe City Band on several numbers, starting with the Swiss National Anthem, "Schweizerpsalm," as arranged by Schneeberger; "Edelweiss," from the Sound of Music, arranged by Schneeberger; and closing with a medley, "Cohan Finale," arranged by Schneeberger. The Monroe Swiss Singers are directed by Deb Krauss Smith and the Monroe City Band is directed by Schneeberger.

Following the concert, the audience is invited to share in the anniversary cake at the bandshell.

The next free public concert will be in December.
